What happened?

Shares of wireless chips maker Skyworks Solutions (NASDAQ: SWKS) fell 7.9% in the morning session after the company reported third-quarter results and issued weak fourth-quarter guidance, citing Android market softness and merger integration factors.

According to a company press release, Skyworks reported third-quarter revenue of $1.05 billion and adjusted earnings of $1.28 per share. For the fourth quarter, the chipmaker guided adjusted earnings of $1.25 per share on revenue of $1.85 billion at the midpoint, alongside an estimated 7% sequential revenue decrease from combined September revenue.

Both guidance figures fell short of Wall Street estimates, which called for $1.99 billion in revenue and $1.57 per share in adjusted profit. The anticipated revenue decline stemmed from softer demand in the Android market as well as integration factors following its combination with Qorvo.

After the initial drop, the shares shed some of the losses and rose to $81.47, down 4.6% from the previous close.

What is the market telling us

Skyworks Solutions’s shares are very volatile and have had 29 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 30 days ago when the stock dropped 2.8% on the news that the company announced the completion of its transaction to combine with Qorvo to form a specialized semiconductor business.

In a corporate release, Skyworks stated that the combined entity will specialize in radio frequency, power management, and analog technologies.

The chipmaker detailed that the transaction is projected to deliver annual cost synergies of $500 million or more, alongside immediate accretion to non-GAAP earnings per share. Large semiconductor mergers frequently face heightened investor scrutiny regarding operational integration hurdles and execution risks, which can lead to cautious trading despite management projecting substantial cost efficiencies.

Skyworks Solutions is up 26.5% since the beginning of the year, but at $81.47 per share, it is still trading 10.9% below its 52-week high of $91.45 from September 2026. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of Skyworks Solutions’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $475.38.
