What is the market telling us
Transcat’s shares are quite volatile and have had 19 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Transcat and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.
The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 12 months ago when the stock dropped 12% on the news that the company reported mixed third-quarter 2025 results that showed a miss on earnings per share and a steep decline in profit.
While revenue grew by 21.3% to $82.3 million and surpassed expectations, investors focused on the weaker aspects of the report. The company's adjusted earnings per share of $0.44 missed analyst forecasts.
More significantly, net income experienced a sharp decrease of 61.4% to $1.3 million compared to the prior year. This drop in profitability was linked to higher operating expenses from recent acquisitions. The company's operating margin also compressed, falling to 4.3% from 5.5% in the same quarter last year.
Transcat is up 87.5% since the beginning of the year, and at $107.18 per share, it has set a new 52-week high. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Transcat’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $1,252.
