University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies’ Scholars Present at 2023 International Leadership Association 25th Global Conference

Robust cohort of research center leadership and scholars presenting and educating at global event focused on cultivating community and leadership practices

Leadership, faculty, students, and fellows-in-residence with the University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies and research centers join the proceedings of the International Leadership Association’s (ILA) 25th Global Conference, “Cultivating Leadership for a Thriving Future,” taking place online, October 3-4, 2023, and in person October 12-15 in Vancouver, Canada.

The conference theme acknowledges challenges and unrest in social systems around the world and invites a spirit of inquiry to collectively create powerful disruptions with questions and inject new thinking into current leadership practices, policies, structures, research, and beliefs as participants work to cultivate a thriving future. The event is intended to cultivate a community of belonging and invites attendees to make a commitment to be in community with a diverse group of learners and leaders from around the world as a leadership practice. The event offers 100s of session, featured speakers, panels with presenters from around the world, in-person and live online, and professional networking opportunities.

“University of Phoenix researchers are strong contributors and committed community members at this global conference,” states Hinrich Eylers, Ph.D., P.E., vice provost, College of Doctoral Studies, University of Phoenix. “Our research centers cultivate leadership practices and vision, and it’s exciting to see so many of our scholars’ and practitioners’ research efforts highlighted at this event.”

Multiple researchers were accepted for the event from University of Phoenix this year, including the following:

  • Sandra Sessoms-Penny, Ed.D., and Joy Taylor, Ed.D., both fellows of Center for Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Research (CWDIR), presenting together, “Transformational Leadership in K-12 Education Post-Pandemic,” on October 3.
  • Louise Underdahl, Ph.D., fellow, Center for Educational and Instructional Technology (CEITR), presenting a poster on research with Katherine Temple Ed.S., Herman van Niekerk, Ph.D., associate dean of instruction, College of Doctoral Studies, and others, “Promoting Entrepreneurship: DELTAs + Gumption + Roadmaps,” on October 3.
  • Research by Subhashis Nandy, Ph.D., MBA, associate faculty, College of Doctoral Studies, and Erik Bean, Ed.D., associate research chair, Center for Leadership and Organizational Studies Research (CLOSR), “Transformational Leadership at Pfizer – A Case Study,” on October 3.
  • Kimberly Underwood, Ph.D., chair, CWDIR, with Sessoms-Penny and Taylor, presenting “A Decade Later: Examining Millennial-Focused Stereotypes through the Lenses of Organizational Leaders,” on October 4.
  • Rodney Luster, Ph.D., chair, CLOSR, leading a virtual interactive roundtable, “The Rise of the Stress Arc: Managing Rapid Onset of Change in Business Through Efficacious Strategy,” on October 4.
  • Sessoms-Penny presenting research with Samira Ali, DPN, RN, Sun Jones, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, Systematic Plan for Evaluation and Curriculum leader, College of Nursing at University of Phoenix, and Marlene Blake, Ph.D., “Organizational Leadership Creating Social Capital and Belongingness for Employees,” October 4.
  • Research by Blake, Sessoms-Penny, Patricia Battson, DM, Underwood, Taylor, Jessica Flores, Ed.D., MBA, and Adrian Allen, DBA, “How Higher Education Leaders Can Help Students Thrive by Building Belonging and Social Capital,” on October 4.
  • A virtual interactive roundtable led by Underdahl on research with Myrene Magabo, D.Comm., and Maureen Marzano, Ph.D., MBA, “Solving Employers’ Dilemma Through Partnerships,” on October 4.
  • Eylers and Mark Ludorf, Ph.D., Senior Editor, Journal of Leadership Studies, leading an interactive roundtable, “Cultivating Leadership Through Publishing with the Journal of Leadership Studies,” on October 13. Journal of Leadership Studies is a quarterly academic research publication, produced by Wiley, on behalf of the University of Phoenix College of Doctoral Studies.
