Christmas will be different for most people this year, whether you are spending it with loved ones or opting for a socially-distanced get-together via Zoom instead. It will be hard for everyone, but there are ways that can help make this festive period a little bit easier for you and your family. One way to make your home feel warm and cosy, in hope that it spreads some Christmas cheer, is by decking your home with festive decor. In this post, we are going to look at four ways you can decorate your dining room this Christmas.

Keep it simple

If you are looking to keep your Christmas simple this year, which we suspect many people are, a good way to do this is by going for a rustic vibe. Nothing says laid-back quite as much as rustic does, which is perfect for keeping things simple and stress-free. You can set the scene by adding some seasonal foliage to your dining table, with a glass bowl filled with beautiful baubles as the centrepiece. Dining benches are a great addition for creating a rustic Christmas feel and will help free up some space.

Add a tree

Some people prefer to have their Christmas tree displayed in the living room and open presents in the morning, but other families may prefer to keep their gift-giving until Christmas dinner has been served. If you are the latter, then a Christmas tree in your dining room (if you have space) is a great idea. This can be instead of putting one in the living room, or if you prefer, it can be a second Christmas tree. Adding warm, white lights and carefully placed tealight candles around the room will help create the perfect ambience, and once everyone has finished dinner, the presents will be ready to be opened.

A festive fireplace

If your dining room has a fireplace, make the mantlepiece festive by adding a Christmas scene. This can be a wooden village or you can recreate the nativity scene. Or you could hang ornaments from the mantlepiece and go for traditional Christmas colours like red, white, silver, and gold, or something a bit more merry and bright like purple, blue, or pink. Another option is to hang wreaths above the mantlepiece with festive colours like red and green or opt for copper and amber to give it more of an autumnal vibe.

Create your own garland

A Christmas garland is a staple in many homes at this festive time of year and looks great on mantlepieces, shelves, around doorframes, and even on your dining table. Why not have a go at creating your own Christmas garland this year to fit in with your Christmas theme? You could choose metallic baubles, real seasonal fruit, or ribbons and bows. If you want to get the kids involved, you could try making a candy cane garland or one made out of felt leaves.

Christmas isn’t going to be quite the same this year, but hopefully, these tips will help you make your home feel that little bit Christmassy and you able to enjoy it with your loved ones, whether they are with you in person or at the end of the table on Zoom.
