Do you want your baby to sleep at bedtime without waking up?

Being a new parent, you’re most likely don’t get enough sleep at night. How can you take care of your baby when you’re feeling too exhausted and depressed?

Sleep might not be a luxury you can’t afford, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Try these 5 steps to introduce your baby to a baby sleep routine that’s also good for you.

1. Prepare the Crib

Your baby should sleep in a quiet and dark environment. The temperature should be comfortable enough for the baby. Put them in a crib with a firm mattress and swaddle blankets.

Experts recommended that around 4-6 months old it’s okay to let your baby sleep through the night.

2. Activities Before Bedtime

One of the easiest ways to put a baby to sleep is to choose bedtime activities. This includes taking baths, reading them stories, and calming background music. Your baby will be able to pick up cues when it’s time to sleep.

Start the bedtime activities 30 to 45 minutes before the designated sleep time. Limit the distractions, meaning no TV sounds or unnecessary physical activities to wake up the baby.

3. Dream Feed

What does dream feeding mean? It involves feeding your baby while they’re still sleeping before tucking yourself to bed.

You know their nocturnal awakening means they’re hungry, most of the time. There’s a great chance you can prevent them from happening if you breastfeed before bedtime. If they have their tummy full, they’re much less likely to wake up in the middle of the night.

4. What if They Wake Up in the Middle of the Night?

They might babble and mumble but it doesn’t mean they are awake. Don’t rush in and interact with your baby in danger of waking them up. Sometimes watching over them silently lets them fall back to sleep all by themselves.

Did you know that mother’s voice is more effective at waking up a child than smoke alarms?

Try not to talk too much nor eye contact that can signify it’s time to wake up. You can use an audio baby monitor to notify you when this happens to act quickly. In this way, they don’t have to cry it out during the night.

5. Wait and Be Patient

One word of advice is to be consistent with your baby’s sleep routine. However, we know that you might be experimenting with what works best.

You’ll have to go through trial and error because every infant has different needs. It will take time before learning how to get your baby to sleep at night. It’s okay because you’re learning and taking your baby steps towards being the best parent you can be.
