What happened?

Shares of cloud observability platform Dynatrace (NYSE: DT) fell 10.6% in the afternoon session after the company lowered its full-year fiscal 2027 forecast for non-GAAP diluted net income per share and adjusted free cash flow in its second-quarter financial results.

According to a company press release, Dynatrace lowered its full-year fiscal 2027 forecast for non-GAAP diluted net income per share to between $1.88 and $1.90. It also lowered its full-year forecast for adjusted free cash flow to between $600 million and $605 million. For the fiscal third quarter, the company projected non-GAAP diluted earnings per share to be between 44 cents and 45 cents, which was below analyst estimates.

What is the market telling us

Dynatrace’s shares are quite volatile and have had 16 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for Dynatrace and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 25 days ago when the stock gained 2.6% on the news that technology equities rebounded from a sharp sell-off sparked by concerns over artificial intelligence revenue expansion. Major equity averages, including the S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq, moved higher at the open on Friday as market sentiment stabilized. Just a day earlier, shares across the artificial intelligence and broader technology space had faced heightened selling pressure following an OpenAI revenue report that rattled investor confidence regarding near-term monetization in the AI sector.

However, the pullback proved short-lived as dip-buyers re-entered the market, viewing the valuation reset as an attractive entry point. The swift recovery highlights enduring investor appetite for leading technology firms, even as Wall Street remains sensitive to updates on how quickly massive capital investments in artificial intelligence will translate into sustainable corporate profits.

Dynatrace is up 15.1% since the beginning of the year, but at $48.75 per share, it is still trading 25.3% below its 52-week high of $65.25 from October 2026. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of Dynatrace’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $646.20.
