What happened?
Shares of aircraft leasing company FTAI Aviation (NASDAQ: FTAI) jumped 11.8% in the morning session after the company reported strong third-quarter 2026 financial results, featuring double-digit earnings growth and a $500 million accelerated share repurchase program.
According to a company press release, FTAI Aviation reported that net income attributable to shareholders jumped 26.8% from the previous quarter to $149.1 million, while Adjusted EBITDA increased 14.8% to $348.3 million (9.2% beat). On the other hand, its revenue missed. Beyond the $500 million accelerated buyback transaction, FTAI Aviation doubled its total share repurchase authorization to $1.0 billion and declared a quarterly dividend of $0.50 per ordinary share. Management also reaffirmed its Adjusted EBITDA targets for both 2026 and 2027 across all operating segments. Aggressive capital return initiatives alongside sustained multi-year guidance often signal strong internal cash generation and strengthen shareholder confidence in long-term earnings potential.

What is the market telling us
FTAI Aviation’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 52 moves greater than 5% over the last year. But moves this big are rare even for FTAI Aviation and indicate this news significantly impacted the market’s perception of the business.
The previous big move we wrote about was 21 days ago when the stock dropped 2% on the news that explosions reported in the Saudi capital and escalating clashes near critical maritime shipping straits sent crude oil prices surging over 5%, compounding pressure from elevated Treasury yields.
According to AP News, the sudden geopolitical shock in the Middle East rattled investor confidence, reigniting concerns over global energy supply disruptions and persistent inflationary headwinds. With crude prices surging rapidly, market participants fear sustained energy costs could complicate the inflation outlook and force central banks to keep monetary policy tighter for longer.
Adding to market unease, the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield hovered near a 24-year high of approximately 5.35%. Higher benchmark yields increase borrowing costs for corporations and consumers alike while compressing equity valuations, as future earnings are discounted at higher rates. The confluence of spiking energy commodities and elevated debt yields prompted widespread risk-off positioning across major equity indices, as traders reassessed macroeconomic growth prospects amid mounting geopolitical tension and tightening financial conditions.
FTAI Aviation is down 8.9% since the beginning of the year, and at $191.56 per share, it is trading 38.2% below its 52-week high of $310.04 from February 2026. Despite the year-to-date decline, investors who bought $1,000 worth of FTAI Aviation’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $7,336.
