The news aggregation startup combines personalized headlines, weather, travel information and everyday planning in a free My Day page on its website.

NewsCubby, the news aggregation startup founded by Josh Kaplan, is bringing daily planning into its news experience with My Day, a free, customizable page on its website. The idea is straightforward: help people keep up with the world while keeping track of their own day.
NewsCubby begins with news headlines. Readers can scan current stories across world news, business, technology, sports, entertainment and other topics, then follow direct links to the original publishers to read the full reports. Members can choose the subjects that interest them rather than work through the same mix of stories every time.
Kaplan started NewsCubby around his own interest in having a daily companion that brings news and useful information together. What begins as a place to catch up on the headlines is growing into somewhere readers can return to throughout the day.
"It's to keep you informed throughout the day with just headlines, and headlines that you want to see," said Josh Kaplan, founder of NewsCubby.
The website's My Day page extends that idea beyond the news feed. Members can organize appointments and lists, choose news topics, view sports information and keep weather and travel information nearby. The page brings those pieces together in a personal starting point, with options to customize the cards and information displayed.
A morning visit might begin with the forecast and the day's plans. Later, a reader might check a developing story, look at a sports score or return to a shopping list. NewsCubby's aim is to make those everyday visits useful, whether someone is working through a busy schedule or enjoying a quieter day.
Travel information is part of that experience. NewsCubby's travel desk provides flight-status information, airport alerts and weather information. Members can keep saved flights and airports they want to watch connected to their accounts.
NewsCubby also offers an Android app on Google Play for news headlines, local weather and travel updates, with an Apple app in development. The My Day planning features described in this announcement are available on the website. Account registration is free.
