Latin GRAMMY-winning composer and conductor Yalil Guerra unveils a new orchestral version of Clave during a CSUN Symphony concert honoring the centennial legacy of Aurelio de la Vega

LOS ANGELES - Sept. 6, 2026 - PRLog -- RYCY Productions, a division of RYCY Music Group, announces the world premiere of the symphonic version of Clave, by Latin GRAMMY-winning composer and conductor Dr. Yalil Guerra, on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at The Soraya in Northridge, California.

The new orchestral version will be premiered by the CSUN Symphony Orchestra as part of a special program conducted by Dr. John Roscigno, with Guerra appearing as guest conductor and composer.

Rooted in rhythmic vitality and informed by Guerra's Cuban musical heritage, Clave explores the relationship between contemporary concert music and rhythmic structures central to Cuban and Hispanic American traditions. Its expansion into the symphonic medium marks a new chapter for the work and Guerra's orchestral catalogue.

The premiere carries particular personal significance because the concert honors the centennial legacy of legendary Cuban-American composer Aurelio de la Vega, Guerra's former composition teacher and an important influence on his artistic development.

Presenting Clave within a concert dedicated to de la Vega creates a musical connection between two generations of Cuban composers whose careers became closely associated with Los Angeles.

"Premiering the symphonic version of Clave in a concert dedicated to Maestro Aurelio de la Vega makes this performance especially meaningful to me," said Guerra. "His commitment to composition, artistic independence, and intellectual rigor had a profound influence on my development. To present a new orchestral work in this context is both a celebration and a continuation of that musical legacy."

The program will also feature de la Vega's Intrata, Emmanuel Chabrier's España, Robert Sheldon's Danzas Cubanas, and Amadeo Roldán's Tres pequeños poemas, exploring musical connections among Cuba, Spain, and Europe.

Born in Havana, Guerra is a composer, conductor, producer, and educator whose music has been performed internationally. He received the Latin GRAMMY Award for Best Classical Contemporary Composition for Seducción and has earned multiple Latin GRAMMY nominations.

De la Vega, born in Havana in 1925, became one of the most influential Cuban-American composers and educators of his generation and served for more than three decades at California State University, Northridge.
