New Doctor Joins Trusted Local Eye Care Practice: OPMT Welcomes Dr. Laila Tawfik

NASHVILLE, TN 9/12/24 — Optometric Physicians of Middle Tennessee (OPMT) is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Laila Tawfik, O.D., to their Nashville and Hendersonville team. Located at 4322 Harding Pike, Suite 214, Dr. Tawfik’s arrival marks an exciting expansion of OPMT’s eye care services in the Nashville area. Specializing in primary care optometry, ocular disease management, and myopia control, Dr. Tawfik is dedicated to providing comprehensive eye care with a personalized approach. Her addition reflects OPMT’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care using the latest advancements in eye health.

“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Tawfik to our Nashville office because she brings a unique blend of expertise and patient rapport to the practice,” said Richard D. Durocher, O.D., founder of OPMT. “Eye disease management is a tricky part of patient care, but Dr. Tawfik has the experience and compassion that is so crucial for helping patients through a difficult time in their life.”

Dr. Tawfik

Dr. Tawfik earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry, following her completion of dual undergraduate degrees in Psychology and French at the University of Kansas. During her time in optometry school, Dr. Tawfik also volunteered with the Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH), traveling to underserved communities in Central and South America to provide essential eye care services. She is a Renaissance woman; her academic background is extremely diverse, and as a result it makes her a more effective and well-rounded eye doctor. This varied experience also provides a broad base that is useful for delivering complex, holistic patient care.

Upon completing her optometric education, Dr. Tawfik furthered her training through a residency in Primary Care and Ocular Disease at BronxCare Health System in New York. Here, she gained extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a range of eye conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Her expertise in myopia control and custom contact lens fittings, including for patients with unique needs, enables her to offer tailored, data-driven treatment plans.

Dr. Tawfik is fluent in four languages — English, Arabic, French, and Spanish — allowing her to effectively communicate with a wide range of patients. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, two prestigious designations that reflect her dedication to excellence in eye care. In short, she is a highly experienced eye care professional at the forefront of her field.

With her deep understanding of ocular health and her patient-first philosophy, Dr. Tawfik is set to make a significant impact on both the practice and the wider Nashville community. Her commitment to providing personalized, comprehensive care overlaps perfectly with OPMT’s mission to maintain the highest standards of eye care.

“We’re a popular eye care center,” said Dr. Durocher. “We are known for our quality eye care, and that’s a good thing. A new doctor means shorter wait times and more efficient care, which is great for patients. We’re just lucky to land Dr. Tawfik; she is an exceptional optometrist.”
