Weldtech's update is intended to make effective PAPR respiratory protection more accessible to professional and hobbyist welders throughout the UK. The new G50 kit combines an automatic darkening welding helmet with ESAB’s PAPR respiratory system, creating an all-in-one solution for welders who need both eye and lung protection during welding and grinding operations.
In 2017, the International Agency for Research on Cancer reclassified all welding fumes as Group 1 carcinogens, meaning they are known to cause lung cancer in humans. Following this, the UK Health and Safety Executive strengthened enforcement expectations, requiring suitable controls for all welding activities regardless of duration, including work performed outdoors.
The G50 welding helmet addresses these safety concerns through its integrated PAPR system, which provides filtered air to the welder throughout their shift. The helmet features an automatic darkening filter with shade levels between DIN 9-13 and a lightning-fast reaction time. Its lightweight shell maintains sufficient strength and impact resistance for grinding work, with a flip-up visor and large viewing area of 97 x 47mm.
