Founded in 2023 in Guadeloupe, the NGO focuses on peace, education, health, and cultural understanding, in alignment with the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda. Their community projects and strategic partnerships aim to foster social cohesion, enhance human rights, and work to improve the quality of life across the region.
A recent report from the United States Agency of International Development highlights the fundamental role that sport plays in development across the world, helping to transform individual lives as well as communities. At CSSD, the focus is on harnessing sport as a way to promote peace through inclusive sporting activities while also empowering youth.
“CSSD uses the universal language of sports to enhance understanding and bridge communities through common experiences and goals,” says a spokesperson. “Our programs promote dialogue and create a peaceful platform for interaction among diverse groups, while helping young people build confidence, acquire skills, and engage positively with their communities.”
As part of their mission to encourage social cohesion, CSSD actively promotes sports collaboration and partnerships between various actors, including sports federations, governments, civil society, and media. Some of their current partners include The Ligue Regionale de Guadeloupe de Basketball (LRGBB), Dominica Amateur Basketball Association (DABA), Sunrise Airways, Keyrol Sports International, and Grand Gousier Basketball.
The organization’s activities include individual sports events, sports camps with an emphasis on cultural exchange and inclusivity, sports workshops for various age groups, and public awareness campaigns.
The NGO also conducts studies and analyses to provide evidence of the ways in which sport contributes to human progress, and to identify continued challenges in the Caribbean. They campaign at a national and regional level to help ensure that sport is included in developmental agendas.
