Steve Pantalemon Calls Attention to the Need for Recovery Support

By: Get News
Steve Pantalemon, a Southern California entrepreneur and philanthropist, highlights the importance of sober living and long-term recovery support in communities across the country.

Steve Pantalemon is using his voice to raise awareness about the role sober living programs play in helping individuals rebuild their lives after addiction. Drawing from years of philanthropic involvement through the P5 Group foundation, Pantalemon is advocating for greater understanding, support, and community engagement around recovery-focused housing and services.

“Recovery doesn’t end when treatment does,” Pantalemon says. “For many people, that next step is the hardest part. Stable, supportive environments can make the difference between moving forward and falling back.”

Across the United States, substance use disorders continue to affect millions of individuals and families. According to national health data, more than 20 million Americans experience a substance use disorder each year, yet only a fraction have access to structured recovery housing after treatment. Studies consistently show that individuals who participate in sober living programs are more likely to maintain long-term sobriety, secure employment, and reconnect with family and community life.

Pantalemon’s involvement in sober living initiatives is rooted in a broader commitment to protecting vulnerable populations. “You start to see how interconnected these issues are,” he says. “Addiction impacts families, children, and entire communities. Supporting recovery helps stabilize all of that.”

Through the P5 Group foundation, Pantalemon has supported programs that provide safe housing, accountability, and peer support for individuals transitioning out of treatment. These programs often operate with limited visibility and funding, despite their proven impact.

“Sober living isn’t about perfection,” Pantalemon explains. “It’s about structure, responsibility, and giving people the space to rebuild confidence at their own pace.”

The need is significant. Relapse rates are highest within the first year after treatment, particularly for individuals who return to unstable environments. Recovery housing addresses this gap by offering consistency, community standards, and mutual support. Research shows that residents of sober living homes are substantially more likely to remain abstinent compared to those without access to such housing.

Pantalemon emphasizes that awareness is a critical first step. “A lot of people don’t realize these programs exist, or how effective they can be,” he says. “When recovery stays invisible, it’s harder to build real support around it.”

Beyond funding, Pantalemon points to stigma as a major barrier. “We still treat addiction like a personal failure instead of a health issue,” he says. “Changing that mindset changes outcomes.”

He believes individuals can play a role simply by learning more and engaging locally. “You don’t have to run a foundation to make a difference,” Pantalemon says. “Understanding the issue, talking about it openly, and supporting organizations in your own community all matter.”

Pantalemon’s advocacy aligns with his broader philanthropic work supporting women, children, and families through organizations such as Laura’s House, Children in Toyland, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. For him, recovery support fits naturally into that mission.

“When people get back on their feet, it impacts everyone around them,” he says. “That ripple effect is powerful.”

Call to Action Steve Pantalemon encourages individuals to learn about sober living and recovery resources in their local communities, support reputable organizations focused on recovery housing, and help reduce stigma by having informed, compassionate conversations about addiction and recovery.
