Amal Thommils Inklings A Lasting Reflection on Empathy Nature and the Human Spirit

By: Get News

Poetry has a timeless way of reminding us of what it means to be human. In Inklings, author Amal Thommil offers a collection that continues to resonate with readers, encouraging reflection on nature, faith, society, and the deeply personal experiences that shape our lives.

Through vivid imagery and heartfelt honesty, Inklings explores the contrasts between the tangible and the abstract—sunsets and oceans, friendships and faith, doubt and resilience. The collection captures fleeting moments of beauty while addressing enduring truths, inviting readers to reflect outward on the world around them and inward into their emotions.

“I wrote Inklings to share the beauty of nature and the people around us—the small things we may miss if we don’t consciously take time to appreciate them,” says Thommil. “At its heart, the book is about empathy. We often want so badly to be understood that we forget to be understanding. While one person may not be able to change the entire world, empathy has the power to change one person’s world. And the same lack of empathy that strains our personal or individual connections also underlies many of the world’s tragedies, from systemic oppression to the ongoing human rights violations in places like Palestine and Sudan. We need to choose compassion and empathy, one person and one world at a time.”

Thommil weaves this central theme throughout the collection, touching on both personal relationships and larger societal issues. From everyday struggles to global injustices, Inklings reminds readers that compassion and connection are essential steps toward healing and change.

Amal Thommil is a writer and bioengineer whose work reflects the balance between logic and emotion, science and faith. He earned a Bachelor’s in Bioengineering from UCLA (2021) and works in oncology consulting, focusing on cancer diagnostics and non-invasive blood-based testing. Outside of writing, Thommil holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and enjoys creative pursuits such as wood whittling, pyrography, 2D needle-felting, and epoxy resin casting.

He is also the author of Parole (2019), Schism (2021), and Ephemeral (2025).

Inklings endures as a poetic meditation on empathy, vulnerability, and the shared human experience. With each poem, Thommil encourages readers to listen, connect, and embrace the strength found in understanding one another.

Inklings is available for purchase on Amazon.
