The Cuban musician, singer, and songwriter Jose Lorenzo El Piscis returns to the scene with his latest album, “Pa' los salseros y las salseras” an ambitious project that aims to break the mold within salsa. Inspired by classic sounds from Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and New York, with a modern hip-hop touch, he explores and expands the horizons of Latin music with this work.
In “Pa' los salseros y las salseras” El Piscis combines salsa with genres like merengue, vallenato, cumbia, and afrobeat, creating a unique and refreshing fusion that connects to his roots while marking an evolution toward the future of music. The album not only celebrates traditional salsa but also brings a fresh twist by incorporating unexpected elements, such as the accordion, which adds a novel and appealing color to classic rhythms.
To visually bring his musical concept to life, El Piscis released a music video inspired by the legendary Noches Tropicanas, featuring dancers from the C.A.M. Dance Company – Dance Academy, directed by Reinier Charon of El Templo Productions, who deliver a vibrant show that complements the essence of his music. "This album is for salsa lovers who appreciate varied sounds," says the singer-songwriter, inviting music enthusiasts to find Pa' los salseros y las salseras on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, and Deezer, as well as the video on YouTube.
The mixing and sound production were led by Gerardo Enrique Rodríguez, a Cuban-American musician, record producer, and sound engineer known for his work as a trumpeter for artists like Marc Anthony, Thalía, Maluma, Ricardo Arjona, Tito Nieves, Aymée Nuviola, Prince Royce, Camila Cabello, and Ricardo Montaner. His work in the music industry has earned him Latin Grammy nominations.
El Piscis notes that it was a challenging process that took nearly a year. "It was a process of perseverance as we needed to find the right musicians." Between these talents is Cuban pianist and composer Alexander Alfonso, renowned for his work with artists like Andrés Cepeda, who contributed his expertise to achieve the exceptional sound quality that defines the album.
You can feel this style in every song on the album, where El Piscis includes his own compositions, filled with experiences and emotions that any listener can relate to, from romance to friendship and loss, in songs like “Abreme la Puerta,” “Besos No,” “Eres Como el Vino,” “Recordaré tu sonrisa,” “Dime una Mentirita,” “Si Tu Me Pegas,” “Tu Si Compartes,” “Tu Amiguita Dice,” and “Hoy Es Viernes”; and the popular hit “La Cita” by Galy Galiano, covered out of his admiration for the singer-songwriter’s music and lyrics, considering him a role model and the song a salsa classic.
One of the most intimate and personal moments of “Pa' los salseros y las salseras” is “Recordaré tu sonrisa,” a bolero dedicated to the memory of his mother, who passed away from cancer. "It was an enormous emotional challenge, but also a healing experience. I wanted to convey the authentic love and nostalgia I am always going to feel for her" the artist reveals. This song, in particular, promises to touch the hearts of those who have experienced similar losses.
Jose Lorenzo El Piscis has managed to capture the essence of Latin music with an innovative touch that looks to connect to new generations. "This album has something for everyone," he says. With live shows featuring performances by the C.A.M. Dance Company – Dance Academy, the Cuban musician evokes the spirit and glamour of Tropicana Nights, with the hopes that his work will resonate both with long-time salsa fans and young people discovering these rhythms for the first time.
