Emerging Detroit filmmaker Justin Donald has announced a crowdfunding campaign giving people everywhere the opportunity to support his upcoming film, ‘Detroits BabyGirl’. This new documentary will feature footage detailing the life and legacy of late R&B artist Aaliyah.
From the big screen to the music charts, hers was a name known around the world. Aaliyah had already captivated audiences everywhere with her innate talent for entertaining people with her vocals and acting skills. As her rise to success was still underway, Aaliyah died tragically. Many people know the story, but according to Justin Donald, many people don’t see who she really was.
Donald’s upcoming documentary will focus primarily on her musical legacy and who she truly was as a person. When asked what she wanted her legacy to be, Aaliyah commented that she wanted to be remembered as an entertainer and a good person. Donald is carrying out her wishes with ‘Detroits BabyGirl’.
Many documentaries on Aaliyah tend to focus on conspiracy theories centering around her death, but Donald is stepping up to do something different. He plans to honor her legacy in a new way with a film that will ignite a passion for Aaliyah’s music in today’s generation.
Donald has set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign that will let fans and followers everywhere be part of the film by supporting its creation. “I will do Aaliyah the justice she deserves and tell her story the right way,” said Donald.
Funds raised with the campaign will go towards licensing photos and video for ‘Detroits BabyGirl’. Donald aims to raise $5,000 to cover many of the costs of the new documentary. When the documentary is released, it will be available for the public to see online.
