Success Tech Service Announces to WordPress Website Owners Beware of Malicious Code
Scammers Are Taking Advantage of WordPress Tools to Hawk Their Scams
Researchers at Sucuri, a security firm owned by GoDaddy, discovered that websites built with WordPress tools had been hacked and were being used to redirect visitors to the same content with sketchy “resources” or ads.

Researchers at Sucuri, a security firm owned by GoDaddy, discovered that websites built with WordPress tools had been hacked and were being used to redirect visitors to the same content with sketchy “resources” or ads.

The malicious code was designed to redirect visitors to malicious websites hosting advertisements for Viagra, Black Ant pills, and other drugs. The scammers who own these domains can make significant revenue from these advertisements, especially from regions where these medicines are hard to come by.  Success Tech Service has the answer.

According to the researchers, the hackers injected the malicious code into more than 100 WordPress themes and 10 plugins from various providers. The code was designed to collect email addresses from those who happened upon the hacked websites.

Now, let’s talk about how to protect yourself from this nasty bit of malicious software. First, if you work in the fields of software development, data analytics, or machine learning, you might be especially at risk. As you probably suspect, these are fields where malicious hackers tend to focus their attention. If you’re in one of these fields, make sure to keep your systems patched and avoid clicking on suspicious links. Second, keep an eye out for ad networks that offer push notifications. Push notifications are generally safe, but they can occasionally be used maliciously. Third, if you work in a field that requires you to click on links, be especially careful.

A representative for WordPress.com said that if any security issues were identified, plugin or theme developers would be informed immediately. Because of Sucuri’s report, any plugin that wasn’t patched was either closed or not accessible on WordPress.org. Theme developers and plugin developers both receive security resources from WordPress.org. WordPress users who self-host are prompted to update their core software, plugins, and themes by default.
