DEA Files Notice of Intent to Temporarily Schedule High-Concentration 7-OH Products; Real Botanicals Announces Consumer Guidance and Alternative Options

July 1, 2026 — The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) filed two Notices of Intent that propose the temporary Schedule I placement of high-concentration 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) and three related substances, which has created widespread confusion throughout the kratom industry.

In response, Kratom Experts has published a detailed analysis explaining what the proposal covers, what it does not cover, and what consumers should expect as the federal regulatory process moves forward.

According to the DEA, the proposed temporary scheduling targets high-concentration synthetic 7-OH products and three related compounds, namely;

  • Mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MP)
  • MGM-15
  • MGM-16

In the presser, the DEA stated that these products present public health concerns because they often contain concentrations of 7-hydroxymitragynine well above those naturally found in botanical kratom.

The analysis published by Kratom Experts highlights an important distinction that many early reports overlooked. The DEA’s Notices of Intent do not immediately ban 7-OH products, and the temporary scheduling order has not yet taken effect. Until the order becomes effective, products that remain legal under current federal and state laws may continue to be sold and purchased.

The report also notes that the DEA specifically stated the proposed action does not apply to traditional botanical kratom products containing naturally occurring 7-hydroxymitragynine below the concentration threshold described in the temporary scheduling order.

Many consumers have asked whether all kratom products are being banned,” said Alphan Maina, a spokesperson for Kratom Experts. “That is not what the DEA announced. The proposal is directed at specific high-concentration 7-OH products and related substances, while traditional botanical kratom products below the stated threshold are not included in this action.

As consumers seek reliable information during the regulatory process, Real Botanicals has confirmed that products currently legal under federal and applicable state laws remain available while the proposal is pending. The company also stated that it has been preparing for changing regulatory requirements by expanding its product portfolio and developing alternative formulations designed to comply with evolving regulations.

In addition to its existing lineup of kratom capsules, Acend tablets, Kratom & Kava Shots, and botanical products, Real Botanicals continues to offer 7-OH alternatives such as Oxonol, Acend and Pseudo tablets while monitoring federal and state developments. The company says it will update customers as additional information becomes available and will discontinue any affected products once the federal requirements take effect.

Kratom Experts encourages consumers to follow official DEA announcements, verify the laws in their own state before purchasing botanical products, and buy only from companies that provide transparent labelling and third-party laboratory testing.

The full analysis of the proposed DEA 7-OH ban, including frequently asked questions and updates as the regulatory process develops, is available on the Kratom Experts website.
