The Foundation’s grant will provide five scholarships to students in the Electrical Lineworker and Electrical Technology program

The Avangrid Foundation, the philanthropic arm of leading energy company Avangrid Inc., a member of the Iberdrola Group, has awarded a $10,000 grant to Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC) to support the Avangrid Foundation/Central Maine Power Scholarship Fund. The funding will provide five $2,000 scholarships to students enrolled in KVCC's Electrical Lineworker Technology and Electrical Technology programs during the 2026-2027 academic year.

“As the energy industry continues to evolve, developing a strong pipeline of skilled workers is essential to maintaining a reliable and resilient electric grid,” said Avangrid CEO Jose Antonio Miranda. “Through our partnership with Kennebec Valley Community College, we are helping aspiring lineworkers access the education, training, and resources they need to succeed in rewarding careers that are essential to powering our communities.”

"For many students, the biggest obstacle to completing a workforce training program isn't determination or talent, it's access to resources,” said Pablo Colón, Director of Corporate Citizenship and Executive Director of the Avangrid Foundation. “These scholarships help remove some of those barriers so students can stay focused on developing the skills that will lead to successful careers.”

The scholarship fund helps reduce financial barriers for students pursuing careers in the skilled trades and supports the development of Maine's future energy workforce. Scholarship recipients may use the funding to help cover tuition, fees, tools, safety equipment, and other educational expenses that are often not fully covered by financial aid.
