Nation’s largest urgent care network to pilot medically supervised weight management services including potential use of GLP-1s
American Family Care (AFC), the nation’s leading urgent care provider with more than 400 walk-in clinics across the United States, announced today the launch of weight management care services at more than 30 franchise locations, beginning March 10, 2026. The pilot program addresses the demand for weight management solutions as one of the fastest-growing areas in healthcare. AFC expects to expand the program to additional locations nationwide in the coming months.
As part of the rollout, participating AFCs will offer comprehensive, medically-supervised weight management plans led by licensed providers designed to support long-term weight management success – with or without medication. AFC’s care plans will include diet and exercise counseling, appropriate labs, scheduled follow-up visits, and the potential prescribing of GLP-1s to aid in weight loss.
One tool within a broader care plan, GLP-1s may be prescribed to qualifying patients based on clinical evaluation, FDA-approved indications and manufacturer guidelines. By offering weight management services in an urgent care setting, AFC expands access to clinician-led care through locations patients already know and trust.
“Proper weight management is central to improving overall health and with rising interest in GLP‑1s, AFC is proud to offer managed weight care services for those looking to explore their options,” said Dr. Benjamin Barlow, Chief Medical Officer of American Family Care. “As we expand access to these benefits nationwide, education remains critical. GLP‑1s can support but not replace care plans built on healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle changes. Our focus is on sustainable, science‑backed well‑being through whole‑person support that goes beyond medication. We’re committed to extending these services to all eligible franchise locations, giving patients trusted, clinician‑led guidance and personalized tools to help them make lasting change.”
GLP-1s are a class of drugs first approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2005 to manage blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Recently, they have gained popularity for their weight loss effects. According to a new survey by the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index, the percentage of adults who report taking this class of medicine specifically for weight loss has increased to 12.4%, as of October 2025, compared with 5.8% in February 2024.
