New Prop 33 TV Ad Features Labor Icon Dolores Huerta

Labor icon Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers union alongside Cesar Chavez, is supporting California’s Proposition 33, the statewide ballot measure for rent control, in a new television ad that will begin airing Saturday on Spanish language TV stations in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Huerta, 94, speaks directly to the camera and urges Californians to vote Yes on Proposition 33 in November because the rents in California are too damn high. She also warns voters not to be fooled by the California Apartment Association, the front group for corporate landlords, which is fighting against rent control by spreading lies about Proposition 33.

The ad will run in both English and Spanish on KDTV (Univision) and KFSF (Unimas) in San Francisco and KMEX (Univision) and KFTR (Unimas) in Los Angeles through September 3, 2024.

Proposition 33, sponsored by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and now endorsed by more than 100 elected and formerly elected officials in California as well as more than 70 labor, senior, veteran, healthcare, and tenant groups, is just 23 words: "The state may not limit the right of any city, county, or city and county to maintain, enact or expand residential rent control.”
