New members’ focus on health care financing, technology will bring valuable perspectives to IHI’s governing body
The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has added two new members to its Board of Directors. Dr. Sidney Klajner, President of Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein in Brazil, is a global leader in health care technology and innovation. Mrs. Fola Laoye, Co-Founder and CEO of Iwosan Investments Limited in Nigeria, is a strategy, financing, and private equity expert with extensive experience improving access to care and capital across Africa’s health care sector. Elected in May, both members will participate in the next meeting of the IHI Board of Directors, taking place in September 2023.

Dr. Sidney Klajner is a Digestive System Surgeon, Robotic Surgeon, Coloproctologist, and President of Sociedade Beneficente Israelita Brasileira Albert Einstein in Brazil. Since 2018, he has been a part of the Advisory Board of the Fundação Faculdade de Medicina. Additionally, Dr. Klajner is a professor of the Executive MBA in Health Management program at the Instituto Israelita de Ensino e Pesquisa of Einstein. He is proud to be the author of the book "A Revolução Digital na Saúde" (The Digital Revolution in Health, Editora dos Editores, 2019). Dr. Klajner is among the 10 Brazilian leaders with the most relevant presence on LinkedIn, according to the ranking of the GV Executivo magazine, from the Getulio Vargas Foundation, and has been a Top Voice in Health on the social network since 2020. He holds a bachelor's degree, residency, and master's degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the Universidade de São Paulo.

Mrs. Laoye is the Co-Founder and CEO of Iwosan Investments Limited, a health investment holding company and owner of Iwosan Lagoon Hospitals. Previously, Mrs. Laoye was Director at Investment Fund for Health in Africa (IFHA). She is a founding board member of Hygeia Group Nigeria, founders of Lagoon Hospitals and Hygeia HMO, where she also served as CEO and Chairperson. She is a Trustee of the board of the Society for Quality in Healthcare in Nigeria (SQHN) and sits on numerous other boards. Mrs. Laoye holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. She is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
