Lance Henning Appointed to FHLB Des Moines Advisory Council

Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines) recently appointed Lance Henning, Chief Executive Officer of Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, to its Affordable Housing Advisory Council (Advisory Council) representing Iowa. Henning begins his three-year term on January 1, 2024.

The role of the Advisory Council is to advise the FHLB Des Moines Board of Directors about the affordable housing and community lending needs of the Bank’s district.

“Lance brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Advisory Council,” said Jennifer Ernst, Community Investment Director. “His insight will help enrich Advisory Council discussions and the advice provided to the Board of Directors about ways FHLB Des Moines can support the affordable housing and community development needs in its district. I look forward to working with him throughout the next three years.”

This December marks Henning’s 20th year leading Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity. Henning’s work in affordable housing also includes co-founding the Iowa Homeownership Coalition, serving as a board member of Homes for Iowa, and serving on the Housing Supply Workgroup, a local Des Moines metro coalition of nonprofits and housing providers. He serves on the Habitat State Advocacy Committee, the United Way of Central Iowa Public Policy Committee and Campaign Cabinet - Chair Public Services Segment and serves on the Large Repairs Coalition Polk County. He previously served as a Board Member and on the Public Policy Committee of Polk County Housing Trust Fund, as a U.S. Council Member and on the Innovation Work Group with Habitat International and served as a member of neighborhood redevelopment coalition with Viva East Bank and on the Government Relations Committee with Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines.

Henning holds a Masters of Science in Environmental Engineering from University of Kansas and a Bachelor of Science, Construction Engineering from Iowa State University.
