ComEd Extends Deadline for Nonprofits to Apply for $1.8 Million in Grants to Support Climate-Friendly Programs

Grants of up to $450,000 each designed to support families and businesses facing economic challenges and improve clean energy access

To help nonprofit organizations to develop and administer climate-friendly and complementary programs that support northern Illinois families and businesses, ComEd today extended the deadline for applications for its $1.8 million Climate Friendly Grant Assistance program to Friday, Aug. 19, 2022.

ComEd’s Climate Friendly Grant Assistance program will award grants up to $450,000 each to as many as four nonprofit organizations so that they can offer clean energy-focused assistance programs to limited-income customers in communities the energy company serves. Eligible nonprofit candidates must be 501(c)(3) certified, serve the northern Illinois ComEd service territory, and support diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.

“We understand the constraints on many nonprofits as they serve and respond to the increasing needs brought on by the pandemic, economy and other world events,” said Melissa Washington, senior vice president of customer operations and chief customer officer, ComEd. “As a long-time supporter of the northern Illinois community, ComEd will continue to respond to the unique needs of nonprofits and support their work to lift up both families and local businesses and ensure everyone shares in the benefits of clean energy.”

Existing Climate-Friendly Programs for Limited-Income Customers

ComEd’s Climate Friendly Grant Assistance program is just the latest ComEd effort to lift the communities it serves and ensure the benefits of clean energy are distributed equitably. Some existing programs include:

  • Bill Assistance To help eligible customers who are facing economic hardship, ComEd offers several bill-assistance options including deferred payment arrangements and grants to help these customers maintain access to reliable, low-carbon energy. For information or to enroll in one of these options, visit ComEd.com/Payment Assistance or call 800-334-7661 (800-EDISON-1), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Give-A-Ray Made possible by Illinois Solar for All, this program offers the opportunity for income-eligible ComEd residential customers, regardless of where they live, to take advantage of community solar projects in Rockford and Kankakee, Ill., without paying any subscription fees.
