Zhengcheng Town in Pingyi County has rich honeysuckle resources with a planting area of 150,000 mu (approximately 25,000 acres) and an annual production of 6 million kilograms of dried flowers. As a provincial-level central town and known as the “First Town of Honeysuckle in China,” it has been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture as a “One Village, One Product” demonstration town. In recent years, based on its unique honeysuckle resource advantage, the town has focused on the construction of standardized honeysuckle bases, guided by agricultural product deep processing, and aimed at the integrated development of the tertiary industry. It is working towards establishing a new pattern of coordinated development in honeysuckle production, processing, and services.
1.Coordinate the construction of demonstration areas and digital reforms to achieve scale, standardization, and intelligence in the primary sector of honeysuckle cultivation.
Firstly, based on the construction of honeysuckle bases, efforts are made to achieve scale. The town guides large-scale honeysuckle businesses by implementing the model of “enterprise + base + cooperative + farmers.” Over 6,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of land have been transferred, and 15 standardized honeysuckle bases and 3 organic honeysuckle bases have been established.
Secondly, strict standardized management is implemented for all honeysuckle planting bases, including unified mechanisms, varieties, pest control, drying, testing, and marketing. This overcomes issues such as scattered planting by farmers and irregular field management.
Thirdly, leveraging data collection systems to achieve intelligence. A honeysuckle intelligent observation station is established, and data collection systems such as intelligent pest monitoring and reporting, central control systems, real-time ecological monitoring systems, and solar power supply systems are improved. Remote control and prediction of disasters, seedling conditions, and pest situations in the planting bases ensure high-quality and efficient honeysuckle production.
2.Focus on “Deep Processing” and make efforts to promote the extension and supplementation of the honeysuckle industry value chain.
Increase investment in scientific and technological innovation and research and development to extend the industry chain. Enterprises such as Shandong Guangyao and Xianyi Pharmaceuticals have been introduced to create a specialized honeysuckle industry cluster. Promote cooperation with China National Traditional Chinese Medicine Corporation and Poly Pharmaceutical Group to establish the first specialized honeysuckle health industry park in China – China (Pingyi) Honeysuckle Health Industry Park. This industrial park integrates honeysuckle production, research and development, warehousing, and trading, achieving integrated development of cultivation, processing, and sales.
3.Build an integrated development system for honeysuckle, continuously integrating honeysuckle cultural elements and cultural connotations into rural tourism and red tourism.
Firstly, adopt a combination of online and offline approaches to accurately connect supply and demand markets, creating a fair and efficient market. Online, establish a honeysuckle supply chain platform to form an e-commerce ecosystem that meets demands. Offline, construct the China Honeysuckle Logistics Port, with an annual throughput of over 20,000 tons of authentic Chinese herbal medicines, primarily honeysuckle, accounting for over 60% of the national trading volume.
Secondly, combine green practices with creativity to develop high-quality leisure agriculture. Leveraging the brand advantage of the “Chinese Honeysuckle Town,” develop leisure tourism focused on the Guanyin Mountain Basin, creating a leisure resort area that integrates special receptions, agricultural experiences, cultural leisure, and health vacations.
Thirdly, combine red elements with traditional aspects to extend the cultural identity of the distinctive brand. Fully explore the cultural heritage of Confucian filial piety in Nancheng Ancient City and the hometown of Zengzi, as well as the red cultural connotations centered around the former site of the high-ranking meeting of the 115th Division and the “115th Division in Yimeng” Party education base. Achieve organic integration of special industries, ecological tourism, and red tourism, and make full efforts to promote rural revitalization.
