Since 2008, Mr. Slavin has served as mayor of Somerset, Maryland, where he has guided the community through significant changes, focusing on transparent and effective local government.

Dedication to Public Service

Throughout his career in local politics, Mr. Slavin is most proud of completing a comprehensive review and rewriting of all procedures governing the town's committees, councils and boards. This work strengthened municipal operations and assured greater accountability for residents.

Aside from mayoral responsibilities, Mr. Slavin has held leadership positions within the Maryland Municipal League and the National League of Cities. In this capacity, he has collaborated with other leaders to promote the interests of towns and cities throughout the state and the U.S. With his public service career spanning decades, he has held numerous staff and leadership roles, including service on the D.C. Mr. Slavin's legal background includes internships with the U.S. Department of Labor and Legal Counsel for the Elderly. He also served as a staffer at the Council of the District of Columbia, where he worked with Councilmember Hilda Mason and later as chief of staff to Councilmember Polly Shackleton. In recognition of his work, he has received numerous honors, including being named Philanthropist of the Year by the Montgomery County Community Foundation and the National Capital YMCA.
