Resilient Garden – Studio KHORA
Studio KHORA's Resilient Garden House proposal examines how contemporary architecture in Miami Beach reconsiders the relationship between dwelling, landscape, and resilience.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Jul 2, 2026 - Studio KHORA's Resilient Garden House begins with a question. How can architecture remain open to the landscape while responding to the realities that increasingly define contemporary coastal life?

Conceived for Miami Beach, the project examines a relationship that has long shaped coastal architecture: the desire for dwelling and landscape to remain continuous.

The garden has often represented openness, refuge, and proximity to nature. Yet the contemporary coast introduces another condition. The landscape remains desirable, but it can no longer be understood as entirely passive or benign.

For Miami Beach architects, this tension increasingly shapes the relationship between architecture and environment.

Studio KHORA's Resilient Garden House explores the relationship between dwelling, landscape, and the contemporary coast.

The Resilient Garden House approaches resilience not as a technical addition, but as an architectural proposition.

Landscape is not treated as scenery surrounding the dwelling. Instead, the garden participates in the organization of space itself, becoming inseparable from the way the house is conceived.

The project occupies a condition between exposure and enclosure.

Not withdrawal from the landscape.

Not complete transparency.

But a reconsideration of how architecture remains connected to the coast while responding to its changing realities.

Resilient Garden - Studio KHORA

The design examines how contemporary coastal architecture can remain connected to landscape while addressing environmental conditions.

Historically, much of Miami Beach architecture has been shaped by openness, horizon, and the continuity between interior and exterior space. The Resilient Garden House does not reject this inheritance. It asks how those ambitions might continue under different conditions.

Protection becomes part of openness.

Resilience becomes part of dwelling.

The garden becomes part of architecture.

Landscape and architecture are conceived as interdependent elements within the spatial organization of the design.

For Miami Beach architects, the relationship between landscape and habitation remains an evolving architectural question. Through the Resilient Garden House, Studio KHORA contributes to ongoing discussions surrounding contemporary architecture, coastal architecture, and the future of luxury homes on the coast.

Rather than treating resilience as a constraint upon design, the project explores how it can become part of architecture's relationship to landscape itself.
