Detective VR Set to Redefine Mixed-Reality Gaming with Launch in Early 2025
Studio Chipo y Juan to Debut Interactive, Mixed-Reality Detective Game on Meta Quest 3.

Studio Chipo y Juan, an indie game development team with a passion for immersive storytelling, has announced the launch of its first commercial game, Detective VR, set for release in early 2025. This groundbreaking mixed-reality investigation game, created for the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S platforms, introduces players to a unique, story-driven experience, combining narrative, puzzle-solving, and interactive interrogation. The official release date will be revealed in November 2024.

In Detective VR, players step into the role of an investigator navigating an intricate web of evidence, unreliable testimonies, and suspect interactions—all from the immersive vantage point of their own living room. Using advanced hand-tracking and mixed-reality technology, players will explore 13 different timelines that challenge them to piece together clues and confront suspects in an environment that blurs the lines between virtual and real worlds.

“We wanted to bring a new level of interactivity and immersion to mixed-reality gaming,” says Alexandre Garland, Game Designer and CEO of Studio Chipo y Juan. “With Detective VR, we’re allowing players to truly control time, witness scenes unfold from multiple perspectives, and solve mysteries in a way that feels personal and cinematic.”

Innovative Storytelling and Realistic Motion Capture

Detective VR draws inspiration from notable interactive and narrative experiences, resembling classics like Return of the Obra Dinn, Immortality, and Minority Report, blending intricate storytelling with technology that places players at the center of the action. The studio collaborated with a talented cast of six actors known for roles in acclaimed series such as The Crown, Succession, and Doctor Who. Leveraging advanced motion capture, these actors bring the game’s characters to life with stunning realism. The immersive experience is enhanced as players can interact with these characters as though they are part of their own physical space.

The game’s development team, based in both France and Belgium, consists of three primary creators: Alexandre Garland, Quentin Valembois, and Xavier Dussart. Garland, a veteran game designer with a background in creating escape games and VR/AR exhibitions, collaborated with Valembois, a VR expert and teacher, and Dussart, a 3D creation specialist. Together, they have combined their talents to push the limits of mixed reality, striving to create a compelling game that places players in the heart of the mystery.

A Revolutionary Addition to the VR Landscape

The small but ambitious team at Studio Chipo y Juan believes that Detective VR will set a new standard in VR storytelling. With a 4-6 hour gameplay duration, this indie title invites players to engage in a fully immersive experience where decision-making, environmental exploration, and character interaction form the backbone of the game. The innovative hand-tracking and mixed-reality technology of Meta Quest 3 adds another dimension, giving players a detective adventure that feels deeply personal and engaging.
