DESCRIPTION:

TORONTO, May 24, 2022 /3BL Media/ - The UN Global Compact Network Canada is delighted to announce the three Canadian SDG Pioneers — business leaders working at any level of a company, who are using business as a force for good to advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDG Pioneers play an important role to drum up interest in the Global Goals and in how the UN Global Compact Network Canada is empowering businesses to advance them.

“The SDGs provide a shared blueprint to achieve an inclusive and sustainable world for all. We are NOT on track to achieve the SDGs by 2030. However, business professionals around the world are stepping up to the task and demonstrating how breakthrough innovation can create the solutions needed to address today’s global challenges. The SDG Pioneer Programme recognizes the individuals leading these efforts to offer inspiration for others", said Ayman Chowdhury, Head of Secretariat of UN Global Compact Network Canada

The 2022 SDG Pioneers were selected by an external review committee consisting of Nicole Lunstead, Deputy Director (Policy) of the Responsible Business Practices Division of Global Affairs Canada, Shashi Kant, professor of forest resource economics and management, and the founding director of the groundbreaking Master of Science in Sustainability Management (MScSM) Program at the Institute for Management & Innovation, University of Toronto Mississauga, Olivier Bullion, Director, Sustainable Development Goals Unit, Employment and Social Development Canada, Charles Beaudry, President and Mobilizer, Accélérer 2030 and Ramina Ghassemi, International Advocacy Specialist, UNICEF Canada. The selection criteria included the individuals' commitment to embedding the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact into their companies' core strategies and their efforts to advance the Global Goals.

UN Global Compact Network Canada is pleased to recognize Metrio's CEO and Co-Founder, Patrick Elie, BASF Canada's Innovation and Strategic Partners Leader, Lorena Lujan Rubio, and Desirée Bombenon, CEO & Chief Disruption Officer of SureCall as its 2022 Local SDG Pioneers. As the top winner, Patrick Ellie will now compete in the Global Round along with other candidates for the title of 2022 UN Global Compact SDG Pioneers. The global winners will be announced this 1-2 June 2022 during the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit.

“I’m honoured to have been named a 2022 Local SDG Pioneer alongside some of Canada’s most forward-thinking business leaders. I believe that we all have a responsibility to lead by example so we can build a more sustainable future for our ‘pale blue dot’. As the CEO and co-founder of a Certified B Corporation, I’m always delighted to witness firsthand how our sustainability reporting software is helping businesses incorporate environmental and social considerations into their activities every year. I’m optimistic that this upward trend will help us collectively reach the global sustainable development goals before long”, added Patrick Elie, CEO and Co-Founder, of Metrio.
